The Middle

The daytime is really the best time a person should aim to get their work done, right? That seems more and more difficult these days with phones always ringing and e-mails blipping off all day long... Oh yeah, and let's not forget the electronic scheduler that chirps to remind you of what you should be doing next.

I've started to rebel against it all. I will (gasp) turn off my phone in the middle of the day so my mind can relax about who might call next. I check my Outlook once or twice a day. My e-mails are starting to become far less attended to as well. Guess what? I'm getting more done. Oh, tuning into Sirius electronica helps a lot as well.

But the funny thing is I still get more done and the work is better if I do it in the middle of the night. Perhaps I take it more seriously 'cause I've stayed up to do something. Perhaps it's knowing that no one is expecting me anywhere. Maybe it's my tired conscious shutting down long enough for my subconscious to get a word or two in without the conscious butting in with its ego-driven madness. Don't know for sure what it is, but I sure do enjoy a good night's work that runs through the middle and sometimes bleeds to the next dawn.
